A lot of our clients target their campaigns toward Estonia without knowing what this country is actually like. So, I wanted to share three interesting and inspiring things about our country and the region.

#1

We’re geographically on the western edge of what used to be known as Eastern Europe, but we actually identify as Northern European or Baltic. We don’t prefer the term “East” because it sounds and feels too closely associated with Russia, and we have a complicated history with them. Decades of occupation and suppression have left deep scars that are not easily forgotten. Thus, it’s important to understand that we speak Estonian, a unique Finno-Ugric language. Our nation has inhabited this land for thousands of years, and we are culturally very different from our eastern neighbors.

This nicely connects to #2, which is that Estonia is a singing nation! We’re incredibly proud of how we regained our independence. It’s known as the Singing Revolution, and it’s a huge part of who we are. We also get along perfectly with our Baltic brothers and sisters, Latvia and Lithuania. A beautiful example of our unity is the Baltic Chain, a human chain of over two million people that stretched across all three countries in a powerful display of solidarity.

And #3, we’re a digitalized nation! Almost everything can be done online. You can even become an e-citizen of Estonia! This digital-first approach is also why Estonia is home to a major NATO cybersecurity center. We’re a hub for innovation, with many big startups and companies originating from Estonia, like Skype, Bolt, Wise, Playtech, and many more. Estonia is a place where technology meets tradition.
